Diggers Hotline is a service that helps protect underground public utilities from being damaged by contractors, homeowners and others while they are performing excavation work near underground utilities. As a member of the Diggers Hotline service, NEW Water receives local requests 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is NEW Water's responsibility as a member of this service to respond to these requests and to keep the database up-to-date by providing Diggers Hotline with any changes to the interceptor system.
When locate requests are received, they are screened by a NEW Water Field Services Technician using the Geographic Information System (GIS) to determine if our facilities are in the area. If there are facilities in the area, a field visit is required to mark our interceptor with green paint and/or green GBMSD flags. Standard locates are responded to within three working days, and emergency locates are responded to within one hour.
